An Australian connection

Thank you for informing us of my dear cousin Anne’s passing. We appreciate the difficulty and sadness in sharing this news - particularly to people you have never met !!

As I was only six years old when my family migrated to Australia (in late 1964), I had only hazy memories of relatives back in England. So it was exciting to get to know them on my return trips to England - firstly, with my parents and brother (Michael) way back in 1978 /1979, then on subsequent holidays back to the U.K. with my husband, Neil, in 1990, 1998, 2013 and 2019.

Neil and I have very fond memories of meeting up with Anne and Phil, together with Rob, Fay, Jeannie and Peter during our last trip to England. We had a lovely lunch together at Gates Garden Centre, followed by afternoon tea at Rob and Fay’s home. There was much chatting and laughter at the time. I am blessed with relatives who all seem to have a wonderful sense of humour. I always remember Anne as having - like both of her lovely parents, my Aunty Mirrie and Uncle John - a twinkle in her eye and an infectious laugh.

During our 2013 holiday, whilst we were staying with relatives from my father’s side of the family, Anne picked us up from my Aunt and Uncle’s house, and took Neil and I back to their home, where we met many members of Anne and Phil’s delightful extended family, whilst chatting over a “cuppa”, then later, dining in the conservatory. As it was summer time, we were then able to go for a drive to Foxton Locks, and enjoyed a drink at a nearby pub. What a wonderful afternoon and evening Anne and Phil had organised for us - creating memories to last a lifetime !!

So we remember Anne fondly as a kind, generous and hospitable cousin, who had a wonderful sense of humour. She was always very proud of her family, as her many cards, letters, photos and e-mails which she sent to us over the years, testify. We are all going to miss her terribly, and we extend our deepest sympathy to Phil and all the family at this difficult time. We trust that happy memories will sustain you all throughout the future.

Sending our love, hugs and special thoughts to all the family.
